Houston re-brand, confirm Preseason Schedule

The Houston Strikers are no more. In the third re-branding of the new Major League Rugby franchise the organization has opted not just to change the logo but the team name itself. The team will now be called the SaberCats and have already launched a new website and Twitter feed.

Also confirmed is an impressive nine-game preseason schedule to be played at Constellation Field, home of the Sugar Land Skeeters, a minor league baseball team located on the outskirts of Greater Houston. The stadium seats 7,500 and has also hosted football and soccer games on its Bermuda Grass surface.

The ambitious fixture list begins on January 6 with a match against the Seattle Saracens, one of three CDI Premier League sides to arrive in January along with the UBCOB Ravens (Jan 13) and James Bay (Jan 27). Further matches will be played against the Capital Selects (Feb 3), the Chicago Lions (Feb 10), fellow MLR side NOLA Gold (Feb 24), and the Ontario Arrows (Mar 3). The opponents on January 20 and February 17 are still to be confirmed.

While the official Major League Rugby regular season is yet to be unveiled the SaberCats have already begun selling season tickets for prices ranging from $72 for youth passes to $675 for ‘Insperity Club’ level access. Major League Rugby is expected to begin officially in April of 2018.
