Quesada’s Biarritz Win Basque Showdown Away to Bayonne

Gonzalo Quesada’s Biarritz won the Basque showdown, claiming a 30-24 win away to Bayonne on Saturday. The result is a tremendous boost to the club who continue in their search for a return to the Top 14.

The 43-year-old arrived at Biarritz this season from Stade Français. He did so after having coached the Parisians to Top 14 glory in 2015. Quesada’s coaching expertise has him identified as a likely future Head Coach of Argentina.

As a Puma, Quesada appeared in two Rugby World Cups. His contribution in 1999 was superior to all other players as he was the highest point scorer. His test career ran from 1996-2003. He debuted against the USA while played for the final time against Ireland in Adelaide, Australia.

Contracted with Biarritz until just before the 2018 June Internationals. Current Head Coach, Daniel Hourcade, is contracted until December 2017. A new Head Coach will officially be appointed in March 2018. Quesada’s name has been circulating within the Argentine sporting media.

After 8 rounds of the Pro D2 Biarritz sit in 6th position on 21 points. For Bayonne the loss sends the team tumbling down to 13th. With five wins so far by Biarritz the club has done better than all but two others in the Pro D2.
