The European Challenge Cup has arrived. The 2017-2018 season is underway. The competition is Europe’s second-string professional club tournament. Involved this season are clubs from England, France, Italy, Russia, Scotland and Wales.
Players from the Americas will feature in the competition on Friday. The first to do so is to be Blaine Scully. The USA captain will play on the right wing for the Cardiff Blues. His side has home advantage against Lyon. Featuring for the French will be the Trinidad & Tobago born Delon Armitage at fullback. The son of former Puma Diego Domínguez, Piero Dominguez will play fly half.
In France Agen host Zebre. The home side has opted against fielding a strong lineup. With relegation a realistic danger in the Top 14 priorities have taken precedence. Starting for the Italians will be two Argentine players. Serafin Bordoli will play fly half while Eduardo Bello is to play at tighthead prop.
On Saturday USA front-rower Joe Taufete’e will start for the Worcester Warriors. He has been named at hooker for the team’s home match against Brive.
Also playing on Saturday will be Axel Müller. The Mendoza flier starts for Oyonnax who are playing at home against Connacht. Müller is uncapped by Argentina but has played for Los Pumas 7’s and the Argentina XV. He lived in Arizona between the ages of 9 and 17.
