RFU Championship – Week 6 Preview

It’s hard to believe but the Greene KING IPA Championship is already a quarter way through the season. As expected it’s Bristol who are leading the charge with a perfect record as they defeated their closest competitors Ealing Trailfinders last weekend. On the other end are Rotherham Titans, who are staring down the barrel of relegation after five successive losses with even semi-pro side Richmond ahead on two successive wins.

The walking wounded are expanding for Canadians as this week Kyle Baillie joins Aaron Carpenter (concussion) and Justin Blanchet (broken arm) on the sidelines with an undisclosed injury. Baillie misses out for London Scottish but Dino Waldren is on the bench as they travel to Ashton Gate where Bristol is waiting. Gastón Cortes will start his first match of the season at tighthead prop for the home side.

Djustice Sears-Duru returns to the Ealing match day squad but will settle for a reserve role while Andrew Durutalo slides over to the blindside flank this week for Trailfinders, who host Jersey Reds at Vallis Way. Richmond will attempt to stretch their winning streak to three games with Ronnie McLean in the midfield against Yorkshire Carnegie, and Nicolás De Battista will start from the replacements bench this week for Cornish Pirates against Nottingham.
