Petti Ruled Out of Facing Australia

Guido Petti has been ruled out of facing Australia. The second-rower was injured in the final minute of Argentina’s home match against New Zealand this past Saturday. The injury has been diagnosed as a clavicular acromion sprain.

Petti was unable to train with the side in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. In his absence Daniel Hourcade had Matías Alemanno and Marcos Kremer as the second-row combination. Neither player started against New Zealand.

In addition to Petti missing team protocol also saw Tomás Lavanini outside of the starting formation. This is based on him having been yellow carded in the match. Los Pumas have a policy in which a player who is yellow carded will not start in the following match.

Alemanno, Kremer and Lavanini are the three second-rowers in the roster to play against Australia. No 8 Benjamín Macome is a utility forward option who has previously started under Hourcade in the second-row.

The loss of Petti is the second blow for Argentina. Already confirmed out is Tomás Cubelli, the starting scrum-half from this past Saturday’s match. Having suffered a fractured vertebrae, Cubelli is out for the remainder of the year. Gonzalo Bertranou has since joined the roster.

Petti is to be fine to play for Argentina next month. Los Pumas will play three test matches in Europe, taking-on England, Italy and Ireland.
