Proyecto Alcatraz Crowned Champions of Venezuela

Proyecto Alcatraz have been crowned champions of Venezuela. The club won the 2017 national club championship, downing Los Tigres de Cabimas 30-18 in the final.

Played at the Hacienda Santa Teresa, Estadio Aragua Proyecto Alcatraz underlined their status as Venezuela~s best as the completed a treble. The club won the national title in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

It took just ten minutes for the game’s opening try. The unconverted try was scored by Larry Brito. The miss mattered not as Ramón Ruiz landed a penalty in the 16th minute to give his side an 8-0 lead.

Proyecto Alcatraz continued to dominate. The speed of the players saw the team going over for try number two. The 30th minute score was credited to Enixón López. Like the first, it was unconverted.

With half time approaching Los Tigres de Cabines opened their account. A penalty from Javier García meant that the halftime score stood at 13-3.

In the second half Los Tigres de Cabines  began well. Xavier Pirela scored an early try which cut the deficit to five points. Goal-kicking woes continued as it was also unconverted.

Hope of a victory from Los Tigres de Cabines was quickly ended. Tries from Proyecto Alcatraz saw the team powering out to a 30-13 lead. Larry Brito converted one of them. The scorers were Juan Gallardo, Brayan Bracamonte and David Morillo.

On hand to present the national trophy was Federación Venezolana de Rugby (FVR) President Erickson and Vice President Igor Cegarra.
