Rosario flier Juan Imhoff scored in Racing 92’s home defeat against Lyon on Saturday. Playing out of position at fullback, the 35-time capped Puma scored a 58th minute try. The score came with Lyon holding a 10 point lead. It was not sufficient for Racing 92 to stop the visitors from causing an upset.
The 20-17 loss sees Racing 92 sliding down the ladder. The club is presently in 7th position but will fall further if Clermont win their match today away again Castres. For Lyon, the victory sees the club continuing to defy odds. After six rounds the club is in 2nd place.
Imhoff has played for Racing 92 since 2011. He joined the club following that year’s Rugby World Cup, doing so as a medical joker. Having made an instant impact he was signed full-time and has gone on to becoming a French champion.
Due to Argentina’s player selection policy Imhoff is not considered for international duty. He was nonetheless freed to play in the 2016 Olympic Games. In his absence Argentina has been unable to settle on a starting left winger. In 2016-2017 Emiliano Boffelli, Santiago Cordero, Juan Pablo Estelles, Manuel Montero and Ramiro Moyano have all had starts in the Pumas 11 shirt.
For the time being Pumas supporters need to wait for Imhoff to return home. He is now into his final season of his contract with Racing 92. It runs until June 2018. The 2018 Rugby Championship will begin in the following month.
