UAR and URBA Reach a Deal over Players

The UAR and URBA have reached a deal over the involvement of club players in the Argentina XV for the remainder of 2017. The national (UAR) and Buenos Aires provincial union (URBA) have decided to limit the number of players who can be called-up from each club. The agreement sees a limit of two players per URBA club.

The accord comes from the management of both unions. The central idea is to coordinate and make the needs compatible for both entities. This is to be done by fulfilling the development objectives of both Argentine rugby and local competitions.

Attention has been given to ensuring that URBA clubs will not be disadvantaged as a result of the needs of the Argentina XV. Limiting the number of players per club is a means of not denying teams of too much of their talent at any one time. With the season reaching its crucial point this will not see certain clubs disadvantaged.

Protecting the integrity of the URBA Top 12 and continuing to have the Argentina XV acting as a development side for Los Pumas are deemed to be common interests.

Toulon’s recent tour of Argentina saw certain clubs losing more players than others. One example was the national club champions, Hindú who lost league matches due to the influence of personal called-up to the Argentina XV. The club has 2017 Argentina XV players including Lautaro Bavaro, Sebastián Cancelliere, Joaquín Díaz Bonilla, Bautista Ezcurra and Felipe Ezcurra.

The Argentina XV takes to the field tomorrow. Argentina’s official ‘A’ side will take-on Uruguay in the 2017 Sudamérica Rugby Cup Final. The teams will meet in the historic city of Colonia del Sacramento.
