Austin Elite Rugby confirmed their first official signing for the 2018 Major League Rugby season on Monday in the form of US Eagles hooker Peter Malcolm. The announcement comes as no surprise given Austin Elite’s connections to the Austin Huns where Malcolm currently plays his club rugby. Several of the current Huns squad are expected to be added to the Austin Elite roster in the coming weeks.
Malcolm joined the Huns in March of this year after making his international debut for the Eagles during the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship. A converted back row player, the 23-year-old now has seven test caps to his name and will be traveling with the USA Select XV to the Americas Pacific Challenge in Montevideo next month. A Collegiate All-American, he captained the MCAA side against Oxford University at Talen Energy Stadium on September 16.
Major League Rugby will kick off its first regular season in April 2018.
