Treviso Acquire Former Pumas Hooker

Tomás Baravalle is set to become the latest Argentine playing in Italy. The hooker from Rosario’s Jockey Club is leaving Argentina this weekend to join up with Guinness Pro 14 Championship side Benetton Treviso.

Aged 26, Baravalle has one test cap to his name. His one appearance was against Uruguay in 2011, a match won 75-14 by Los Pumas in Posadas.

Baravalle’s cap came as a replacement. Involved for Argentina were a number of current Pumas. This included Ramiro Moyano, Rodrigo Báez and Tomás Cubelli who captained the side. 2017 Jaguares hooker Roberto Tejerizo played at prop, joining the French-based Franisco Gomez Kodela up-front.

While this is to be the first opportunity for Baravalle to play professionally it is not his first experience abroad. He has prior experience playing club rugby in New Zealand for Pakuranga.

The Italian side has been home to Baravalle’s countrymen both past and present. He joins Juan Ignacio Brex to give the side a second Argentine player.
