Top 14 – Round 5 Preview

Round 5 of the French Top 14 takes place this weekend. It is to be a five-two split with matches spread between Saturday and Sunday.

First up will be the feature match of Clermont vs Racing 92. The home side will have Patricio Fernández as the reserve fly half. Meanwhile the visitors from Paris have named a lineup with two Argentine players starting. Veteran Manuel Carizza will run-out in the second-row while Juan Imhoff has been named out of position at fullback.

Another Argentine fly half will feature later on in the day. Ignacio Mieres will start at pivot for Agen who play host to Pau. Former Jaguar Facundo Bosch joins him in the starting lineup, doing so at hooker. Possible Eagle Dave Ryan will start at Loose Head prop.

The red-bot La Rochelle have a home match on Saturday. They welcome Oyonnax who take with them an Argentine Olympian. Los Pumas 7’s flier Axel Muller starts the match on the left wing.

Saturday’s final fixture sees the bottom of the table Brive hosting Toulouse. Seeking first competition points of the season Brive are in need of great importance. USA Great Taku Ngwenya returns to the side to play on the right wing.

Sunday’s fixtures see Lyon and Stade Français playing at home. They welcome Castres and Toulon respectively. Lineups for both matches are due to be named on Saturday.
