Fernández Scores as Clermont Slay Brive

Argentine play-maker, Patricio Fernández scored for Clermont on Saturday. The reigning Top 14 champions slay Brive in a round four home match. Clermont were extremely impressive in downing Brive 62-6.

The result sees Brive remaining winless thus far in the 2017-2018 season. The club is bottom of the table and yet to register a competition point. The bonus point win sees Clermont move into joint 6th position with Toulon. Montpellier is leading with 19 points.

Both Clermont and Brive will have home advantage in round five. Clermont host Racing 92 while Brive welcome Toulon. Both fixtures will be played on Saturday September 23.

Against Brive on Saturday, Fernández was a replacement. He replaced former English fullback Nick Abendanon in the 65th minute. The Rosario fly half crossed for a try in the final minute. It was his third appearance of the season. In round one he landed two conversions and a penalty in starting against Bordeaux. In round three he was a replacement and landed a conversion against La Rochelle.

Still aged just 22, Fernández is one of the bright hopes for the future of Argentina. Under existing rules he is not able to play for Los Pumas. With him being under contract with Clermont until 2020 he will miss Rugby World Cup 2019 unless existing selection laws are changed.

Fernández has his eligibility captured by Argentina. He earned both of his two caps as a teenager in 2013. He scored 38 points in his two appearances which were against Brazil and Chile.
