Pro D2 – Week 5 Preview

It’s not the most exciting week for Americas fans of the Pro D2. Even in a slow week, however, there are participants in five of the eight matches across the French second division. The Argentines dominate selection with only one player from the USA accounting for all of the Americas representation.

The weekend is over for USA fans before it even started as Eric Fry played for Vannes in the 38-22 win over Bayonne at the Stade de la Rabine. On the other side of the field Martín Bustos Moyano captained the visitors and kicked seven points while Juan Pablo Orlandi came on as a second half replacement at tighthead prop.

Six matches come in Friday including on at Mont-de-Marsan that features a trio of Argentine tight forwards. Props Jerónimo Negrotto and Carlos Muzzio will play for the home team with the former starting at tighthead and the latter the backup loosehead. Second row Demian Panizzo is named among the replacements for visiting Carcassonne.

Another prop, Leandro Assi, is on the bench for Biarritz when they welcome second row sub Tomás Vallejos and Nevers. Colomiers have two Pumas in starting hooker Agustín Costa Repetto and reserve flyhalf Sebastián Poet in their match day roster to face Charente. Lastly Martín Chiappesoni is on the flank for Dax against Massy.

Sunday’s match sees Montauban travel to Perpignan with Damian Arias a possible for visitors.
