Hourcade: South Africa were superior

In the aftermath of Argentina’s 37-15 defeat against South Africa today, Head Coach Daniel Hourcade analyzed the performance.

Hourcade noted that “I think that South Africa were superior, had a notable dominance which, in the second half, was reflected in the result. We had few opportunities and defended a lot and at points we did well or very well, but I am confident that the scrum was the low point. We conceded five penalties from this formation, it is serious.”

“One cannot defend all match long against a team like South Africa, that is going through a strong period and that pressures the opposition in the way that they did today. They were superior, played much better.”

“For next Saturday, we have to improve. We need to have possession, which today we lost with ease. We had some opportunities in South African territory, but when you fail after a break, or you attack from behind the defensive line and you lose the ball with an unforced error, that affects you. The Springboks had this great virtue, to make the most of our mistakes, of which there were many.”

“We need to urgently improve the scrum. We cannot have five penalties and a free-kick against us. From there came points or it took is back into our territory or denied us of possession. Without committing those penalties there, is another thing, constructing can be done better. But not like today.”
