This weekend there was one capped get match involving teams from the Americas. That fixture was the South American C Championship warm-up match in Guatemala City. The 2015 and 2016 champions, Guatemala hosted the 2014 champions, El Salvador.
The match was a one-sided affair. Guatemala’s tremendous progress in recent years was underlined as Los Jaguares powered to a 114-0 record-breaking victory. The result also confirmed the extend of El Salvador’s problems, shedding light on to the decision to not play in the upcoming South American C Championship in Costa Rica.
The result in Guatemala city sees Guatemala gaining slightly. The exchanged rankings points see a gain from 31.26 to 31.68 points. This sees Guatemala edging towards St. Lucia who occupy 21st spot in the Americas Rankings. El Salvador remain bottom of the Americas Rankings in 39th of all competing teams from the Western Hemisphere. The updated ranking sees a fall from 27.05 to 26.63 points.
With the Rugby Championship starting this coming Saturday there may well be additional changes to the Americas Rankings next week. In the opening round Argentina face South Africa in Port Elizabeth.
