It’s a steady stream of signings now from the Houston Strikers, who have added their 15th player with the announcement that former US Eagles cap Zach Pangelinan will join the team ahead of the 2018 Major League Rugby season. Having only just added USA 7s forward Pago Haini during the week, the electric Pangelinan adds to what is building up to be an impressive roster for the professional startup set to kick off in the spring of next year.
A native of the unincorporated US territory of Guam, Pangelinan was an international soccer player before switching his focus to rugby. He won two test caps for the Eagles in 2012, making his debut in the No 15 shirt against Tonga in the neutral venue of Colwyn Bay. The 29-year-old is a versatile player, having also been used as a flyhalf and winger, though his most effective position is at fullback where his pace and footballing skills make him a dangerous counter-attacker.
Arriving from a stint with Randwick in Sydney, Australia, Pangelinan was previously a standout with the San Diego Breakers in PRO Rugby and OMBAC in the Pacific Rugby Premiership and California Cup. A detailed Strikers roster list as it stands can be seen here.
