Montevideo Hosts San Francisco 2018 Qualifiers

The 2017 Valentín Martínez tournament is to be special. Organized by Sudamérica Rugby, the Unión de Rugby de Uruguay (URU) and Carrasco Polo Club, the winner will qualify for San Francisco 2018.

Competing are to be Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela and Uruguay. The winner will qualify for the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018, a three-day event taking place on July 20-22 next year.

Participating in San Francisco will be 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams. Argentina, Canada and the USA have already qualified in the men’s division. The two North Americans have also secured their spots in the women’s.

The Valentín Martínez tournament will take place on Friday November 10 and Saturday November 11. It is to double as qualifying for the 2018 Hong Kong Sevens. The two finalists will seal their places.
