Oyonnax Snap Up Axel Müller

Oyonnax have snapped up Axel Müller. The 2016 Olympian has joined the recently promoted Pro d2 club for the 2017-2018 Top 14 season.

The 23-year-old Müller has signed for Oyonnax on loan from Toulon. The deal will see him remaining in the Top 14 but playing for Oyonnax in the upcoming season.

Müller is a utility back. Capable pf playing wing or center it is the former in which he is arguably the better player. The Mendoza native has prior experience in the position for the Argentina XV but is uncapped by Los Pumas.

With him previously having played for Los Pumas 7’s, including at the Rio 2016 Olympics his eligibility is officially captured by Argentina.

He spent much of his childhood years in Arizona. While living in the USA he played American Football, among other sports. His return to Mendoza resulted in him going through the junior PladAR system and becoming a leading Rugby 7’s player. He also played in the 2013 Junior World Championship for Los Pumitas.

The creation of Los Jaguares saw Müller becoming a fringe player. But in not being able to receive game time in Super Rugby the opportunity of playing in France saw him joining Toulon in 2016.

In his first season in France Müller played 11 matches for Toulon. Of these 10 were in the starting lineup. He scored 10 tries.

Argentina’s non-selection policy of players in Europe caused harm in 2016. With wingers Emiliano Boffelli, Ramiro Moyano and Manuel Montero injured Daniel Hourcade played centers as wingers in November. Müller would almost certainly have started had he been available.
