Ormaechea Departs France

Uruguayan Agustín Ormaechea has departed France. After four years playing for Mont de Marsan in the Pro D2, the 26-year-old is now to reunite with his beloved Carrasco Polo club.

Ormaechea joined Mont de Marsan from Carrasco Polo in 2013. He went on to play 82 French second division matches for the club. This past season he made 20 appearances.

Impressing at an early age, Ormaechea made his debut for Uruguay in 2011 against Portugal. He has been a mainstay in the team since, always being selected when available. His most recent cap was against Spain in the Nations Cup.

In 2015 he played in all four of Uruguay’s Rugby World Cup matches. He started all matches at scrum half and scored a try against Fiji. In doing so he followed in his father’s footsteps. Diego Ormaechea scored against Spain in Rugby World Cup 1999.

His return follows that of Gastón Mieres and Mario Sagario from England and Ireland respectively. Felipe Berchesi, Rodrigo Capó Ortega and Manuel Leindekar remain in France. The latter of the two play in the Top 14.
