Blues and Rock ‘A’ sides to meet on Friday evening

The Ontario Blues and Atlantic Rock will do battle twice over the Canada Day weekend as part of their preparations for the 2017 Canadian Rugby Championship. First up will be a match between their respective ‘A’ sides on Friday evening, a match that will feature many promising players and several who have already represented the senior sides of each team.

A name of particular interest for the Blues is former Canada 7s cap Jake Webster, who returns to representative action after a year-long hiatus. Canada age-grade graduates Mac Kea and Peter Milazzo boost the pack and Jeremy Wright leads the side after starting for the senior Blues in the win over Glendale. Two members of this year’s Canada u20 side set to travel to Uruguay later this summer are on the bench in hooker Steven Ng and flyhalf Will Kelly.

The Rock also feature several experienced players with PEI prop Alex Forrest part of last year’s senior squad and versatile Nova Scotia forward Evan Dickie named captain. Quebec skipper Lucas Hotton is named on the flank and New Brunswick’s Canada u18 representative Nick Davidson is at the back of the scrum. Irish import Graham Barry will distribute to an impressive backline that is headlined by Canadian international Brett Johnson at fullback.

Friday’s match takes place at Lindsay RFC with kickoff set for 7pm local time. The second match takes place on Monday between the senior sides and will be played at Nicholls Oval Park in Peterborough at noon. Neither match will be streamed but Monday’s game will be available to local residents on Cogeco.
