Argentina won for the first time in 2017 on Saturday, defeating Georgia in Jujuy. The 45-29 victory saw the South Americans ending their three-match home series as winners.
The match was the second time in which the Lelos have played a test in Argentina. The prior match was in San Juan in June 2013. The teams have also previously met in three different Rugby World Cups. The 2017 win saw Los Pumas extending their unbeaten record over the Georgians to five matches.
Georgia has not yet had the opportunity of playing at home against Argentina. This is not likely to remain true for very long Georgia’s rapidly growing reputation is such that home tests against Tier 1 opposition is a matter of when not of if.
Prior to playing in Jujuy Georgia placed in Calgary and Atlanta, coming away with victories over both Canada and the USA. In the June 2016 internationals Georgia was also undefeated in the Pacific Islands.
In Jujuy Georgia fell to Los Pumas but returned home with an enhanced reputation. The manner in which the Eastern Europeans were able to play saw them earning plenty of applause. Argentina’s scrum was torn to pieces by the Lelos. Georgia also scored one of their greatest tries of all time.
