Juan Imhoff Denies Signing New Contract with Racing 92

Less than two weeks after Racing 92 announced the resigning of Juan Imhoff, the player has publicly denied it. Racing 92 announced that Imhoff has agreed to terms to remain at the French club until 2022. This ruled him out of playing for Argentina for a further five years.

Rosario site Despise del Try reports that no deal has been made. Imhoff declared: “it is totally false, I have not yet signed anything. It must be a marketing approach or something else. I have not decided on my future, I have many things to consider, I have taken a four week vacation and strictly vacation at that, I have not even thought about it because I still have time to decide”.

“My signature is not yet on any team. I have gone on vacation, gotten away from rugby and the reality i that I have not yet signed anything whatsoever. Today I don’t know. I have one year left on my contract, I am surprised as much as you are, these are things that happen which I am not prepared for”.

Existing Argentine policy prevents any player based in Europe from playing for Los Pumas. In the case of Imhoff this means that if he were to complete his remaining year and return home he could then play again for Argentina. The 29-year-old has 35 test caps to his name. His non-selection is 2016 was one of the hottest talking points, with the UAR coming under severe criticism.

Should Imhoff leave Racing 92 in June 2018 he would then be free to play in that year’s Rugby Championship. More importantly it would make him fully available for all international duty including Japan 2019.
