Patricio Albacete has joined Racing 92. The 36-year-old has agreed to terms to complete the move from Toulouse to Paris for the upcoming Top 14 season. In doing so Albacete will play for another club for the first time in 11 years.
The former Puma was a mainstay at Toulouse from 2006-2017. His highly successful career at the club included winning the Top 14 in 2008, 2011 and 2012. He also won the European Champions Cup in 2010.
Toulouse was Albacete’s home for many years but it was, in actuality, his third French club. He made the move from Buenos Aires to France in 2003, joining Colomiers. From there he played two seasons at Pau before joining Toulouse in 2006.
In moving to Racing 92 Albacete will join two former Pumas teammates. At the club are Manuel Carizza and Juan Imhoff. Both players joined Albacete in the Pumas team for Rugby World Cup 2011. In that tournament Albacete and Carizza were the starting lock combination for Argentina.
Albacete previously played in both Rugby World Cups 2003 and 2007. In total her earned 57 caps for Los Pumas. He was a permanent fixture in the starting lineup from 2003-2013. His international career was cut-short after a public fallout with Daniel Hourcade.
