Houston Strikers add front row pair

The Houston Strikers have today announced the additions of two front row players to their roster. Jack Riley is the first to join from a local club. Currently affiliated with the Katy Lions, a Division 2 club on the outskirts of Houston, Riley is capable of playing prop or hooker and is backed by head coach Justin Fitzpatrick to make an impact.

“We are pleased to have Jack join the Strikers. He is a big imposing athlete and we look forward to working with him and helping him fulfill on his undoubted potential.”

Also joining the club for the 2018 Major League Rugby season is Australia-based hooker Lindsey Stevens, a Junior All-American trialist in 2014 as a flanker. Stevens joins the team via Eastern Suburbs. He has made four senior appearances for the Beasts thus far in Sydney’s Shute Shield competition, the highest level of club rugby outside of the professional National Rugby Championship.

“I would like to thank Houston Strikers Head Coach Fitzpatrick and President Jeremy Turner for giving me the opportunity to join my step-brother Jake [Turnbull] in becoming a Houston Striker and representing my mother’s home state of Texas. I am looking forward to coming back to the Lone Star State where I will be closer to family and be a part of building the game of Rugby there.”

Fitzpatrick is equally excited about the new signing.

“Lindsey is a talented young hooker who has a strong set-piece game and the athleticism to be a positive contributor around the paddock.”

The signings bring Houston’s roster up to eight players. Previously announced were props Jake Turnbull and Adam Macklin, second row Charlie Hewitt, eightman Matt Trouville, scrumhalf Connor Murphy, and flyhalf Sam Windsor. Major League Rugby’s inaugural season is set to kick off in Spring of 2018.
