Fiji is out to avoid Argentina in Rugby World Cup 2019. Head Coach John McKee has declared Argentina’s Pool as the toughest in Japan 2015 and Australia’s as the easiest.
The Fijians are currently in Australia preparing to play against the Wallabies in Melbourne this coming weekend. The fixture will help prepare the Pacific Islanders for their Rugby World Cup Qualifiers against Samoa and Tonga next month.
Should Fiji defeat Samoa and Tonga they will secure their place in Pool D. That would mean matches against Australia, Wales, Georgia and Americas 2 in Japan 2019. A failure to do so would likely see Samoa qualify as Oceania 1 and Fiji as Oceania 2.
McKee told News Corp Australia “We already know the pool draw and quite clearly Oceania 1 is the pool with the most light at the end of the tunnel. It’s the one I see giving ourselves the best chance to get out of and into the playoffs. Pool D with Australia and Wales has two tier-one nations in it.”
Oceania 2 will join Argentina, England, France and Americas 1 in Pool C. Qualification began a year ago. The matces see Fiji lead the qualifiers with 8 points. Samoa is in second with 4 and Tonga has 1.
