The Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR) has acquired an area of 32 hectares to transform into a National Rugby Center. The land is located in Camapan, 70km north of the national capital.
Among those involved for the signing were UAR President Carlos Araujo and World Rugby Vice President Agustín Pichot. The latter is also the creator of the High Performance Plan.
World Rugby is to support the center, aiding with funding for the construction of installations. The facilities are to include between six and eight rugby fields, a gymnasium, dressing rooms and accommodation. This will enable national teams ranging from Los Pumas to youth sides and also Sevens and Women’s rugby teams to all use the Center.
Sudamérica Rugby President Marcelo Rodríguez declared: “it is a great dream of the Unión Argentina de Rugby being realized, that will allow for work to continue with all of the national sides as has been happening but now with greater comfort and capacity, in one individual area.”
Other countries have their own National Rugby Centers. The first of which is the Centro de Alto Rendimiento de Rugby (CARR) in La Reina, where Chile has its field and gymnasium in addition to rugby administration offices. There is also the Centro Charrúa in Montevideo where the Unión de Rugby del Uruguay is based. It is not only a stadium but also a High Performance Center equipped with accommodation facilities, a gymnasium, medic rooms and administrative areas.
Brazil, Paraguay and Colombia also all have their own preparation facilities. Argentina’s is to be for training. No national stadium will be constructed on the premises.
