Narbonne will have two giant-sized USA internationals in their squad next season. Joining David Tameilau in France is 20-year-old second row Siaosi Mahoni, who moves from Tameilau’s old club Life West on the USA’s west coast to the south east coast of France. A veritable giant at 2.03m (6’8″) and in the neighborhood of 134kg (295lbs), Mahoni has signed a three year contract after making his international debut for the Eagles during the Americas Rugby Championship.
This will be Mahoni’s first exposure to fully-fledged professional rugby having previously appeared in a handful of matches for PRO Rugby’s San Francisco Rush. A multiple-time High School All-American, his club career started with the Razorbacks of his home town of East Palo Alto before making the switch to Life West for the California Cup following the conclusion the inaugural PRO season.
Mashoni was part of the USA Select XV that traveled to Montevideo for the Americas Pacific Challenge in October 2016 and trained with the Eagles in November but did not make an appearance. Still eligible for the Junior All-Americans, injury looks to have ruled him out of the upcoming World Rugby u20 Trophy qualifiers and his new contract will likely render him unavailable for the tournament in Montevideo in August should the USA qualify.
