Uruguay hosted Brazil on Saturday in a second round Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifier. Having lost against Chile in round one Brazil simply had to win in Montevideo. Os Tupis gave it their all and competed throughout but Los Teros were simply too strong.
The win gave Uruguay a 2-0 record. Their remaining fixture is also to be at home. They will take on Chile this coming weekend. Brazil will close their campaign against Paraguay in São Paulo. With both sides winless from the opening two rounds they are playing to avoid relegation from the South American ‘A’ Championship.
Uruguay have appeared in three Rugby World Cups – 1999, 2003 and 2015. They are seeking to make 2019 their fourth. The combination of an improved player base, a High Performance Training Center and newfound international competition sees Uruguay in better shape than ever before.
