Argentina, Canada, USA To Compete in London 7’s Quarter Finals

Argentina, Canada, USA are all to Compete in the London 7’s Quarter Finals. The three Americas’ countries had impressive opening day performances on Saturday.

Canada and the USA came out as upset winners over Fiji and South Africa respectively. In the case of Fiji this send the Oceania side to the Challenge Trophy for the first time since the 2014 Las Vegas 7’s.

The Maple Leafs followed it up by narrowly falling to New Zealand. The 19-14 defeat mattered not though as Canada rebounded to defeat Japan 28-14.

Japan’s day was far from memorable. Due to a 61-5 loss to Fiji the Asian country officially lost its status as a core team on the HSBC 7’s circuit. Argentina’s was better as the team’s performance confirmed it will compete at the Rugby 7’s World Cup in San Francisco.

Argentina started and finished strongly. Los Pumas 7’s opened with a 35-7 downing of France. A 26-19 defeat at the hands of Scotland meant a win over Russia and a favorable outcome from Scotland vs France were required. Both wishes came true which set-up a Cup Quarter Final against Canada on Sunday.

The USA will also compete in the Cup Quarter Finals, taking on Australia. The Eagles 7’s booked their spot in the final eight by virtue of a big win over Kenya and the upset against South Africa. The day had not started so positively as the North Americans fell 28-12 to Wales.
