Argentina XV and Toulon to Meet in Friendly

The Argentina XV and Toulon are to meet in a friendly. The fixture has been confirmed by Argentina XV Head Coach, Felipe Contepomi. The match will go ahead in place of the proposed Argentina XV vs Georgia match. The date and venue are yet to be confirmed.

The Argentina XV is Argentina’s official ‘A’ side. The team plays in, among others, the Americas Rugby Championship and World Rugby Nations Cup competitions. It is a developmental side viewed as the third most important side behind the top two of Los Pumas and Los Jaguares.

Contepomi retired from rugby in October 2013. His final match was against Australia in Rosario. It marked the 87th time in which he had played a test match for Los Pumas. No player has earned more caps for Argentina.

As a player Contepomi appeared in four Rugby World Cups, including the 2007 Semi Final against South Africa. His performances saw him shortlisted for the 2007 World Rugby Player of the Year Award.

With Argentina being strictly amateur during his playing days he played abroad. He appeared in the final of the Aviva Premiership for Bristol and won the Guinness Pro 12 with Leinster. He left Ireland for France in 2009, joining Toulon. His final club was Stade Français from 2011-2013.

Toulon is the current home of Americas players Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe, Samu Manoa and Axel Muller.
