World Rugby have selected three players as nominees for the World Rugby Sevens Rookie of the Year award. The chosen players are New Zealand’s Vilimoni Koroi, Fiji’s Kalione Nasoko and Argentina’s Matías Osadczuk. All three finalists have had tremendous impacts in their inaugural season of playing Rugby Sevens at the elite level.
In March Osadczuk was named in the Vancouver Dream Team for his excellence in the Canada 7’s. Unfortunately injury at the Hong Kong 7’s ended his season early. Prior to the knee injury Osadczuk had scored 26 tries in his rookie season.
His torn cruciate ligament injury required surgery. It means he will miss out on the World Rugby Junior World Championship. He had been set to go, having featured on Los Pumitas’ 2017 tour of New Zealand.
His position at senior level remains open to debate. He plays center for his club, SITAS.
