La Guajira Hosts Junior South American ‘B’ Championship

Riohacha, La Guajira is to host the upcoming Junior South American ‘B’ Championship. The norht-eastern Colombian city will play host to a Four Nations competition featuring the u19 teams from Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia. The competition will be played from May 28 to June 03 at the Estadio Federico Serrano Soto, a venue seating 3,000 spectators.

The Junior South American ‘B’ Champion will be promoted to the ‘A’ Championship and will play in this year’s tournament in Brazil in November. The runner-up will play in the Rugby Americas North Junior Championship in Miami, Florida in July.

The Junior South American ‘B’ Championship will have six matches and is part of the international junior calendar. The teams are due to arrive in Riohacha on May 27. The Colombian team will be in camp from Sunday May 25 in Medellín. They are the defending champions.

In 2015 Mexico participated, losing 23-19 to Colombia in the final fixture. The 2016 edition was in Peru with Colombia defeating Venezuela 26-10, Peru 39-9 and Mexico 25-19.

This year Mexico will not compete, Paraguay is to do so instead. The Paraguayans were relegated from the Junior South American ‘A’ Championship.  Mexico will play in the Rugby Americas North u19’s. The remaining competitors are to be Bermuda, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos and the USA South.
