Romania To Face Brazil in June

Romania is to face Brazil in June. An official announcement of the fixture has been made from the national governing body, the FRR. The fixture is to be a one-off international, taking place in Bucharest on June 24.

It will bring a close to the June International window for both countries. Prior to the match Romania will play away test matches while Brazil is to play at home. For Romania this brings an end to the decade-long June involvement in the Nations Cup.

The World Rugby tournament will continue but is to be played in Montevideo for the first time. Playing in the event will be the Argentina XV, Emerging Italy and the test teams from Namibia, Russia, Spain and Uruguay. All four are competing for the right to qualify for Rugby World Cup 2019.

The Romania vs Brazil fixture is to be ground-breaking. Never before have Romania and Brazil played against each other in a match.

Of note is that the FRR’s press release on the announcement included details as to Brazil’s involvement, and wins, in the Americas Rugby Championship. With it added the Eastern Europeans are to have a global series of test matches against countries from North America, Asia and South America.

The date for Romania vs Brazil clashes with that previously announced for Brazil vs the Cook Islands. No altered date for that fixture has been announced making it likely to have been cancelled.
