Carpenter signs Doncaster extension

Aaron Carpenter will be staying in England for at least one more season with the confirmation that he has signed a contract extension with Doncaster Knights. The Canadian No 8 has been a standout performer for the club since joining from London Welsh in January and helped them to a fourth place finish overall and a spot in the Greene King IPA Championship Semi Finals. Their season is now over having been defeated by London Irish but recruitment is well underway for the 2017-18 season.

Director of Rugby Clive Griffiths was effusive in his praise for Carpenter.

“Aaron has done a magnificent job since he arrived from London Welsh, he provides us with extra leadership and much valuable experience in the eight jersey. I am very happy to have Aaron back on board next season and, without wishing to tempt fate, congratulate him in advance of him becoming Canada’s all time record cap holder this summer.”

The 34-year-old has won 75 caps for Canada since his debut in 2005 and now sits only one shy of the all-time Canadian record set by Al Charron. Carpenter is expected to be included in Canada’s squad for the upcoming June international series.
