Uruguay Reportedly to Face Namibia in November

Uruguay is reportedly to face Namibia in November. French-based Japanese specialized website, Japon Rugby tweeted the rumor publicly. Americas Rugby News also has inside information that the series has been discussed and is to go ahead.

Upon confirmation the series would be historic. The two countries have met only only one prior occasion while in November 2017 they are reportedly to meet in a two match series.

No location for the matches has been identified. Such matches have tended to take place in Europe though with Montevideo’s Estadio Charrúa being among the leading Tier 2 venues in the world it would be an ideal location.

Problems in Namibian rugby have restricted the country from facing countries outside of Africa with regularity. Indeed, last November Uruguay played away to Germany, Spain and Romania. Namibia, in contrast, did not play at all. Instead Namibia’s most recent match was a 60-22 win over Zimbabwe in August.

Neither the URU nor the Namibian Rugby Union have yet verified the tour. The one match between the countries took place in September 2000 in Montevideo. Uruguay won 23-12.
