Eagles ready for HSBC Sevens Series run-in

Head coach Mike Friday has named his USA Eagles 7s squad for the final two tournaments of the 2016-17 HSBC Sevens Series. Currently in 5th spot overall, the Eagles are nine points behind 4th place New Zealand and have their work cut out for them if they hope to achieve a top four finish. They will be full of confidence after a Cup Final appearance in Singapore but must succeed without star forward Danny Barrett who is ruled out with injury.

Replacing Barrett in the team is Old Blue captain Alex Schwarz. The Australian-born loose forward will make his Eagles debut in Paris though he boasts considerable experience both with the Manly Marlins and Northeast Academy 7s sides. Another change sees Don Pati return at the expense of Anthony Welmers, while 18-year-old Naima Fuala’au will join the team as a 13th man for the final round in London.

The Eagles enter the Paris tournament as top seeds in Pool B, and will face Argentina, Wales, and New Zealand on Saturday. All matches will be streamed live by World Rugby.
