Mieres signs for Agen

Argentine flyhalf Ignacio Mieres has signed for Agen. The 30-year-old, who won six caps for Argentina between 2007 and 2012, will leave Dax at the end of the season to take up a two-year contract with his new club, who have been searching for a replacement for Burton Francis, the South African opting to join Grenoble next season.

It’s a step up for Mieres, and a move that could pay greater dividends come the end of the season. While Dax are currently floundering in 12th place on the Pro D2 table, Agen are in 2nd spot and will enter the barrages as favorites to win the second promotion ticket to the Top 14. Oyonnax clinched the top spot last weekend and secured their return to the top flight.

Mieres has been a regular in the Dax lineup since joining from Worcester Warriors ahead of the 2014-15 season. A goal-kicker who is also capable of playing centre, he was previously with Exeter Chiefs, Stade Français, and Perpignan, and has now scored more than 800 points combined in his professional career.
