Uruguay to Have Professionals for RWC Qualifiers

Uruguay is to have complete access to professional players for the upcoming Rugby World Cup qualifiers. Take place this month, the 2017 South American A Championship is to double as qualifiers with the winner advancing to face Canada or the USA.

Uruguay’s five professional players are all to be made available. This will see Head Coach Esteban Meneses able to field the strongest possible Los Teros side. Set to be called-up are Felipe Berchesi (Carcassonne, France), Nicolás Freitas (Jaguares, Argentina), Franco Lamanna (Recco, Italy), Manuel Leindekar (Oyonnax, France) and Agustín Ormaechea (Mont de Marsan, France)

Los Teros’ leading domestic players have been training at Montevideo’s High Performance Center. This is to continue this week with Friday and Saturday seeing a new training camp at the Centro Charrúa. It is to be the final weekend before the start of the Rugby World Cup Qualifiers.

Uruguay will open their campaign on the road. The May 13th fixture is to be at the home of Paraguayan rugby in Asunción. Los Teros’ two remaining fixtures are both to be home games. Taking place on May 20 and 27, Uruguay will face Brazil and Chile.

May 13 Paraguay vs Uruguay (Estadio Héroes de Curupayti, Asunción, 3:15pm)
May 20 Uruguay vs Brazil (Estadio Charrúa, Montevideo, 3:30pm)
May 27: Uruguay vs Chile (Estadio Charrúa, Montevideo, 3:30pm)
