Costa Rica Approaching World Rugby Membership

Costa Rica is approaching World Rugby membership status. The Sudamérica Rugby member and Central American republic has been hosting a visit this week from Sudamérica Rugby authorities this week.

As a part of the visit Costa Rica Rugby has been introduced to the Leading Rugby course in the World Rugby Level 1 and Level 2 varieties. It is to be extended to other Central American unions.

Costa Rica is seeking to become a full member of World Rugby. Sudamérica Rugby’s visit is to help complete required documentation to enable the unions’s acceptance.

In addition to Costa Rica the visit also involves members of neighboring unions. Representatives of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama have all been present. Of the five three are currently members unions with teams in the South American C Championship. Honduras and Nicaragua’s involvement is just a matter of time.

Guatemala won the 2016 South American Championship. The four nations tournament also involved Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama. In winning, Guatemala will face Ecuador in repechage with the winner playing in the 2017 South American B Championship.
