Americas Weekend Guide: Champions Cup Semi Finals

Who will be the club champion of Europe? Four remain in the hunt and this will be cut to two this weekend. Dublin and Lyon are to be the settings for compelling matches and matches involving players from the Americas.

The home of Irish rugby, Aviva Stadium is to be a home away from home for Munster. The Southern Irish province will take-on the reigning European champions, Saracens. Both teams are packed with British & Irish Lions roster members. The visitors also have three players from the Americas. Marcelo Bosch starts at outside center while Eagles Titi Lamositele and Chris Wyles provide cover at Loose Head prop and in the back-three.

On Sunday the Champions Cup returns to Lyon. The city hosted the 2016 final, a match won by Saracens over Racing 92. The venue is changed for this weekend’s Semi Final. The home of Top 14 side, Lyon OU will host the game. It is a stadium known to Los Pumas as they faced Georgia there in Rugby World Cup 2007.

Mario Ledesma, Martín Scelzo and Gonzalo Longo were all involved in Clermont’s 2007 Top 14 final against Stade Français. Ten years on and another Argentine player will feature. Named on the bench this weekend is Patricio Fernández. The fly half from Rosario is back-up to France’s starting test fly half, Camille Lopez.

The two winning teams will advance to the final. It will be played in Edinburgh, Scotland on Saturday May 13.
