Beukeboom signs 3-year Pau extension

It’s been a very good start to the year for Matt Beukeboom, who earned his first international caps for Canada during the Americas Rugby Championship and then shared the field with brother Brett in the matches against Uruguay and Brazil. While Brett’s own contract renewal was formally announced last week, 20-year-old Matt’s extension flew under the radar. In this midst of the ARC a three-year contract extension with Pau was confirmed that will see him stay in France until at least June 2020.

Beukeboom is approaching the end of his first season with the Top 14 club, who he joined from Queen’s University and his home club in Lindsay, Ontario. Capable of playing second row or blindside flank, the 1.98m (6’6″) forward has been a regular starter for the Pau Espoirs and now has three senior international caps to his name. Still eligible for Canada’s u20 side, he is expected to be a key figure against the Junior All-Americans in June and, should Canada qualify, the World Rugby u20 Trophy in late August.
