Facundo Isa is to play for the Barbarians. The Argentine No 8 is one of six players named by Vern Cotter for a match against England on May 28.
Isa made the move to France earlier this year. He did so by walking away from a contract with the UAR. He is at Lyon for the remainder of the season and will transfer to Toulon for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons.
There is no possibility of Isa playing for Argentina until he completes his time in France. He could thereby play in Rugby World Cup 2019 and warm-up tests ahead of the tournament. No possibility exists of playing before then.
Isa joins Adam Ashley-Cooper (Australia), Will Genia (Australia), Corey Flynn (New Zealand), Aki Bundee (New Zealand) and Census Johnston (Samoa) in the Barbarians. The remaining players will be confirmed at a later date.
Aki is set to expose World Rugby eligibility later this year. The New Zealander will qualify for Ireland after completing three years at Connacht. In joining the province he walked away from the possibility of becoming an All Black and stated that he “can always play for Samoa”.
