It’s the penultimate round of the Greene King IPA Championship regular season but truth be told it doesn’t mean much. With London Welsh already gone there is no relegation and London Irish have already clinched the top spot heading into the knock-outs. The only question now is seeding and the last spot in the final four, a position that should have little impact on the grand finale.
All five matches will take place on Saturday this weekend. The most interesting of them from both an Americas perspective and the league table takes place at the Athletic Ground where Richmond host Cornish Pirates. US Eagles cap Ronnie McLean is once again at inside center for the home side with Canadian pair Richard Townsend and Tyler Hotson on the bench. Brett Beukeboom starts at lock for the Pirates with Nicolás De Battista opposite McLean in the No 12 shirt.
Jebb Sinclair will make his first Championship start of the season having been named in the London Irish second row for the second consecutive week. On the other side of the pitch will be Rotherham Titans who have Santiago Socino as a reserve hooker.
Lastly it’s a pair of Canadian loose forwards with Justin Blanchet starting on the blindside flank for Bedford Blues as they welcome Yorkshire Carnegie to Goldington Road. Aaron Carpenter must settle for a reserve role for Doncaster Knights when Jersey Reds come to town.
