Pirates RC Crowned National Honduras Champions

Pirates Rugby Club are now the Honduras national champions. The club from Islas de la Bahía were crowned champions on Saturday, winning the Torneo Nacional de Rugby 10’s, a nine team tournament of 10-a-side rugby.

The Pirates topped the podium with Zamorano finishing in second position. Third place went to Los Toros.

Honduras is yet to become a member of Sudamérica Rugby though is seeking to do so. The country has been involved in international rugby against regional neighbors. In 2015 Honduras faced western neighbors Guatemala prior to the South American C Championship. Played in November 2015 it was Honduras’ first ever rugby test match.

Southern neighbors Nicaragua are another breaking new ground. The national men’s side, Los Torogoces faced Guatemala u23 in 2016 and are moving towards gaining a place in the South American C Championship.
