Americas Weekend Guide: RFU Championship – Round 20

Nine players with Americas connections will run out in Round 20 of the Greene King IPA Championship. It’s Canada who have the most invested with half a dozen eligibles to go with a pair of Argentines and a solo US Eagles international.

Newly re-signed flanker Justin Blanchet will start for Bedford Blues when they travel to the Athletic Ground to face London Scottish on Saturday. Ciaran Hearn will swim across the Channel to face Jersey at St. Peter as London Irish look to continue their unbeaten Championship season. At Rotherham it’s Santiago Socino who starts at hooker against visiting Nottingham.

Sunday’s matches see three players each in Cornwall and Yorkshire. Brett Beukeboom and Nicolas De Battista reprise their established roles in the Cornish Pirates lineup against visiting Doncaster. The Knights will give in-form No 8 Aaron Carpenter his fourth start since joining from dissolved outfit London Welsh.

Second-place Yorkshire Carnegie won’t be able to catch Irish in the regular season but will instead concentrate on creating an upset in the playoffs. They’ll begin knock-out preparations against Richmond at Headingley. The visitors will start Canadian international Tyler Hotson in the second row and USA cap Ronnie McLean in the midfield. Former Canada u20 hooker Richard Townsend is in line to make his seventh overall appearance for Richmond this season as a reserve.
