Martín Landajo is staying in Argentina until 2019 at least. The Jaguares and Pumas scrum-half has, today, agreed to terms with the UAR. His new three-year contract will see him at the complete disposal of Raúl Pérez for Super Rugby and Daniel Hourcade for international duties.
Landajo signed with the UAR in January 2015. In doing so he was one of the first signatures for Los Jaguares. His initial contract is to run out in 2017 but in signing a new deal he will remain under union control until after Rugby World Cup 2019.
A product of CASI in the San Isidro region of Buenos Aires, Landajo has been a mainstay in Los Pumas since 2012. The 28-year-old played three tests from 2008-2010 but it is since 2012 that he has been a constant. Indeed he has played in all Rugby Championship matches for Argentina, the only player to have done so.
Landajo joined the PladAR system in 2009. He did so having played for Argentina at u19 level in 2007 and playing in the Junior World Championship one year later. Neither current Head Coach, Hourcade, nor the former Head Coach, Santiago Phelan, have ever dropped him since 2012. This has seen him amass 66 caps, 21 fewer than the record held by Felipe Contepomi.
Currently sidelined through injury, Landajo’s spot in Los Jaguares is being occupied by Gonzalo Bertranou. The impressive Mendoza scrum-half remains uncapped. Landajo and Tomás Cubelli have been the scrum halves used by Hourcade in all tests since he took over from Phelan in October 2013.
