Moroni Hands Jaguares a Problem

Matías Moroni has handed Los Jaguares a problem. The center left play against the Lions on Saturday, complaining of pain in his hand. Having undergone tests it has now been confirmed that he is to be out of action for at least three weeks.

The injury is yet to be fully diagnosed. What is known is that it is a fissure or fracture in the third metacarpal of the right hand. As such Moroni will miss Los Jaguares home matches against the Cheetahs and Reds in rounds four and five.

Los Jaguares are to have a bye in round six. Their round seven match is to be away to the Sharks in Durban. The April 08 fixture is now to be Moroni’s target for his return from injury.

Moroni has had an unfortunate start to 2017. He suffered an elbow injury in the pre-season. In his absence Matías Orlando is likely to hold down the starting no 13 birth. Inside center Jerónimo de la Fuente may move to outside center if required. Gabriel Ascárate and Santiago Alvarez are additional options.

Wingers Emiliano Boffelli and Manuel Montero are both expected to play their first Super Rugby matches of the season in the coming rounds. Uruguayan Nicolás Freitas is another possibility.
