Canada Women perfect on Las Vegas Day One

Canada picked up where they left off in Sydney as they emerged from Day One in Las Vegas with a perfect 3-0 record. An impressive win over Russia opened the tournament and they coasted past Argentina and France, the latter they’ll meet again in the Cup Quarter Finals on Day Two.

Also qualifying for the Cup Quarters are the USA. A rough start against Ireland put the Women’s Eagles in danger but they pulled up their socks and got through Spain in fine fashion before edging a tricky Fiji to pull through. They’ll have an immediate chance to erase their 24-21 loss to Ireland in the Cup Quarter Finals in another rematch.

Brazil, who were drawn in the Pool of Death, had a very difficult day as they failed to score a try in their three matches. New Zealand, Australia, and England all proved too much though England were forced to work for their result. Spain are next on the schedule in the Trophy Semi Final.

The Trophy draw will also have Argentina, who are matched with England. Entered as the 16th team in the competition, Argentina could not compete with series regulars France, Canada, and Russia, though they did manage to score one try each against the first two.

New Zealand came through their difficult pool with three wins from three after a hard fought battle against Australia. They will take on Russia as one of the favorites to reach the Cup final. The other Cup Quarter Final sees Fiji face Australia.

All matches on Day Two will be streamed live by World Rugby.
