Saturday evening will live long in the memory of both teams but for very different reasons. Uruguay defeated Canada for the first time since 2002, running up 17 points by halftime and holding on to earn just their second ever victory against a Canadian side.
The hugely disappointing performance from Canada virtually assures that they will finish no higher than fourth, and they must now find their feet against a Brazilian side who have beaten the odds before. Los Teros meanwhile now look certain to finish in third place, one higher than a year ago, provided they push past Chile in Montevideo next weekend.
