Lyon Sign Isa for Remainder of Season

Blocked from the UAR, Lyon have acquired Facundo Isa for the remainder of the season. The French club have gained the services of the highly regarded Pumas No 8 from immediate effect until June.

The 23-year-old signed a two-year deal with Toulon. It will see him playing for the Top 14 club in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons. Before his contract with Toulon officially starts he will play for Lyon, thereby ensuring he has a team to play for.

Isa’s decision to return to play in France was not popular with the UAR. The Santiago del Estero No 8 had been blocked from training with Los Jaguares last month and was subsequently cut from the roster. Clarification from UAR authorities was that they would not invest in a player who could not play for both Los Jaguares and Los Pumas.

Super Rugby’s loss is the Top 14’s game. The tremendous loss will be felt by the Argentine Super Rugby franchise as it will from Los Pumas. Isa will play no further part in Argentina’s international matches until 2019. He has 25 test caps, 19 of which have been starts.
